The Setaf Saget fleet

At the end of June 2009, Setaf Saget operates on all the seas of the globe a fleet of nearly 20 bulk carriers, nine of which are directly owned.

The owned fleet by Setaf Saget consists of recent Supramax bulk carriers with a maximum length of 190 m, with deadweight of 48,000 to 53,000 dwt and a cement carrier with a length of 170 meters, a width of 27.55 meters, a draught of 14.2 meters and a deadweight of 30,000 tons.

In July and August 2009, Setaf Saget took delivery of the Major and the Tabor, built in Sinopacific Dayang shipyards in China. Their specifications are a length of 190 meters, a width of 32.26 meters, a draught of 13.2 meters and a deadweight of 58,000 tons. These 2 Supramax come to reinforce the fleet of the four bulk carriers from 50 to 55,000 dwt delivered between 2001 and 2005 (Shangor, Orientor 2, Messidor and Dalior), the four units of 53,000 dwt delivered in late 2007 (Thermidor) and in the first half of 2009 (Nantor, Fructidor and Angina), and the cement carrier Endeavor, taking the number of directly owned vessels to 11 at the end of August 2009.

Thanks to its excellent knowledge of the market and of ship-building and its close relationship to the shipyards, particularly in China, Setaf Saget has been able to enter into agreements for new construction at competitive prices. These new bulk carriers of a modern design meet the most recent standards and make it possible both to raise the amount of tonnage transported and also to raise productivity in loading and unloading operations.

By developing its owned fleet, Setaf Saget aims to maintain the highest quality service for its clients.

A series of 10 latest-generation Supramax

The specific design of the series of 10 Supramax vessels is the result of great expertise in the management of this type of carrier.
Of a customized size, tonnage and design, this series (3 vessels delivered in 2009) presents operational advantages that are much appreciated by clients. The new Supramax are equipped with powerful cranes and are able to load and unload their 58,000 ton cargo in the minimum time at sites without a port infrastructure. Their propulsion system and the design of the hull have been optimized to cut operating costs by keeping down their fuel consumption.
By having this series built in China, at high-quality shipyards offering competitive prices, BOURBON ensures that it can offer its clients quality service with latest-generation vessels at the best possible price.

Testimonies

Jean Labescat,
Responsible of the Setaf Saget Technical Service,

« We have set up on-site STCO (Setaf Technical Control Organization) teams to supervise construction. These international engineers and technicians work very closely with the shipyards and are in constant communication with our Suresnes team in the same way as an integrated department. Because these teams exert strict quality control at all stages, we are able to build our new vessels at competitive prices and with a high level of quality as befits the BOURBON standards. »

Marc Tezenas,
Technical department – monitoring newbuilding,

« Concerning the conception of the new Supramax vessels series, my mission was to make any necessary changes on the standard model proposed in order to optimize performance that could meet our operating requirements and offer to our clients maximum productivity for loading and unloading operations; a vessel that will age well, that will be easy to handle and maintain for 30 years, for the most limited operating cost possible. »
